Child and Adult Adoption Services in Chicago

Adoption is a wonderful way to create or add to a family, but the legal process can be complex and frustrating. Parents seeking to add a child to their family through adoption must have proper legal representation to ensure the adoption process goes smoothly and any issues are addressed in a timely manner. At Anderson & Associates, P.C., our attorneys are experienced in handling all types of adoptions. We guide prospective parents through the adoption process and help you navigate any potential pitfalls along the way.

Experienced Legal Representation for Illinois Adoptions

There are several different kinds of adoptions, but they all must go through the court system in order to be valid under the law. Illinois law prescribes numerous rules and regulations for legally adopting a child. Our attorneys are skilled in all areas of adoption law including:

  • Related Adoptions – Adoptions in which one or both parents are related to the child. (i.e. stepparent, sibling, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or cousin)
  • Agency Adoptions – Adoptions that are supervised by licensed Illinois adoption agencies.
  • Private Adoptions – Adoptions in which biological parents choose the adoptive parents and the place the child in their care without the assistance of an adoption agency or social services.
  • Co-parent Adoptions – Adoptions in which both parents are unmarried but seek equal parenting rights. Common in nontraditional families.
  • Adult Adoptions – Adoptions in which an adult is legally adopted by another adult.

Most adoptions are uncontested, but occasionally some adoptions involve contested issues that threaten to derail the process. We are skilled at anticipating and mitigating these issues. Additionally, we represent adoptive parents who must defend an adoption against an attempt to vacate or reverse the adoption.
