Christopher J. Maurer is a licensed Illinois attorney, in practice since 1997, who has focused his practice in the area of family law including all aspects of divorce issues (contested and uncontested divorces, complex financial litigation, and business divorces), paternity cases, preparation of prenuptial agreements and postnuptial agreements, custody disputes, visitation enforcement, determination and enforcement of child support and maintenance (formerly known as "alimony"), grandparent rights, and disputes over permanent removal of children from Illinois.

In addition to successfully litigating and resolving contested custody disputes for his clients, Christopher J. Maurer also represents the interests of the children that are the subject of such disputes in his capacity as a Guardian ad Litem. Christopher is certified by the Sixteenth and Eighteenth Judicial Circuits of Illinois to represent children in such cases and is regularly appointed by the Court to make recommendations as to the best interest of the children on issues of custody and visitation.

Christopher J. Maurer is a Certified Illinois Mediator for Domestic Relations cases for the 18th Judicial Circuit, DuPage County, Illinois. In this neutral capacity, Christopher works with both parties to facilitate an agreement on any disputed issues.

In addition to being a seasoned trial court litigator, Christopher J. Maurer has substantial appellate litigation experience, having won several cases on appeal before the Illinois Appellate Court, one of which was a defamation case which was sent back to the trial court, resulting in a $1.7 million verdict in favor of his client upon retrial, and another of which upheld the validity of a post-nuptial agreement to the benefit of his client.

Christopher J. Maurer also assists clients in developing their estate plans (wills, living trusts, powers of attorney for health care, powers of attorney for property) to ensure that their assets are protected during their lifetimes and after their deaths. Christopher utilizes estate planning tools to meet his clients' goals of avoiding probate, reducing or avoiding estate taxes, nominating guardians of children, and protecting assets from creditors. Christopher also represents administrators, executors, heirs and guardians in various guardianship and probate proceedings, including complex estates. Using his estate planning knowledge and experience, Christopher has given Basics of Estate Planning seminars to various groups in the northwest suburbs.
